Antique Regency Goncalo Alves Table

FOR SALE: A wonderful Regency period (c1820) large breakfast or centre table in Goncalo Alves wood This beautiful wood is referred to as Tigerwood because of the dramatic stripes it exhibits. It can be seen as similar to Rosewood but more striking. This wood was sourced, more often than not, from Central or South America. This table is of a useful large size and, as a dining table, would seat six people. The top is rectangular with squared-off corners. It has a deep frieze which terminates in well-carved gadrooning. The table sits on a beautifully carved and attractively shaped central stem, which sits on a platform base. It stands on its original fluted feet and concealed castors. The condition is wonderful, with no veneer losses, and the table overall has a great depth of colour. Of course, it bears some scars attributable to its age, which in no way detracts from its beauty.
