61' Dutch Barge - Tjalkship

De Eems is a Friesch Tjalkship built in Gastmeer, Friesland in 1911. The boat has been in Ireland since 1966 and is part of the Heritage Collection here. It has travelled the waterways extensively including boat Royal and Grand Canals. The boat is laid out, as you enter it from the stern, with a spacious saloon, with an incredible amount of storage. Following through the door from the saloon you reach the galley which has a table that seats four and a couch which pulls out into a double bed. There is an oven, a grill and a three burner hob and a lot of storage.. Through the galley door is the two main bedrooms, each with a double bed and connected by a hallway with ample storage. If you think there's not enough storage in the hallway you will find more in both bedrooms. There's a lot of storage. The interior is majority hard wood with brass finishing, there is a lot of attention to detail. The boat is well insulated. There is a multifuel stove in the saloon that has ample heat to heat the whole boat. In 2023 we fit a diesel fired heating systems which feeds radiators throughout the boat. Hot water is supplied by a gas geyser. The boat has 12v and 240 with new batteries, solar and 3kw inverter installed by one of the greatest marine electricians on the Island of Ireland. Probably the greatest to be fair. The solar operates all needs on the boat year round with fridge etc and is entirely off grid.
