Learn how to plan and execute a passage by day and by night with and without your electronic navigation aids.  HANDS-ON USE OF CHARTPLOTTERS – GARMIN, NAVIONICS, C-MAP  Paper charts. Waypoints. Compass bearings. Variation and Deviation.  Tides, tidal heights. Tidal currents and their effects on passage planning.  Weather conditions, synoptic charts, weather forecasts. How to avoid weather risks.  Pilotage. Recognising buoys by day and night. Vessel day shapes and lights.  Limitations of electronic navigation. Rules for Prevention of Collisions at Sea. This is an extended version of the Irish Sailing Coastal Navigation for Small Boats course, to include extensive hand-on experience on real chart-plotters, using waypoints to correctly plan and execute your coastal passage by day and by night.
