Antique Sword - french infantry gladius

selling a genuine antique sword for the french army - a model 1831 infantry sword. Shaped on the model of the ancient roman gladius, this was the hand weapon and everyday tool for the 19th century french army's foot soldier for about 40 years, from 1831 to around 1870. remains in remarkable conditiotions despite being almost 200 years old. The 46-cm long/4 cm wide blade is in very good condition, with some minor pitting (but no active rust) and a beautiful patina, as you would expect from an antique piece like this one. blade is totally blunt. the sword is well marked: one side of the blade is marked with the date and location of the blade's manufacture (Chatellerault 1833), while the other side is marked with name of the armory that put together the blade and the guard (Pihet Freres). There's also a marking on the brass guard, but that's barely visible. comes with a leather scabbard, with two brass fitting at the top and bottom. While the scabbard is appropriate with the age and model of the sword, this is quite clearly NOT the original scabbard for THIS sword, as the blade is somewhat too long for the scabbard - when the blade is fully inserted there is still a small gap of around 1cm between the brass fitting of the scabbard and the guard of the sword (see picture for details) The scabbard is quite conditions - a few stiches towards the tip got loose, but otherwise the leather is in good conditions, and there's just few small scratches on the brass fittings.
