Description
A Naval Long Service and Good Conduct Medal, George V, awarded to "155680 DENNIS KINSELLA, STO. P.O., HMS RESEARCH", impressed upright capital naming. Dennis Kinsella (b. 1st January 1872) in Blackwater, Wexford. His period of service reckons from 1890, including HMS Research from 1915-1919. HMS Research (1888) was a paddle steamer used for surveying UK coastal waters between 1889 and 1912 before being stationed at Portland from 1915 to function as a depot ship for locally employed armed trawlers. Kinsella's earlier service includes in the China Station on HMS Edgar (1890) from March 1893 - September 1896, where he was a survivor of the ship's pinnace capsizing off the coast of Chempulo, Korea, with 48 men lost and 23 rescued. Kinsella was further entitled to the 1914-18 War Medal and WW1 Star.
