Description
Astronomical refractor telescope A fine brass astronomical telescope on a mahogany tripod, altazimuth mount, with a high quality achromatic doublet objective lens 3 ½ inches diameter and 50 inches (125cm.) focal length. Manufactured by the renowned instrument maker John Browning of 63 The Strand, London in the late 19th century. It comes with three RAS thread eyepieces giving a range of magnifications 80x, 125x and180x for astronomical (inverted image) use, and a terrestrial lens with a magnification of about 35 x. Approximate focus is selected by sliding the tube holding the eyepiece into the end of the telescope tube, which has a rack and pinion adjustment for fine focus achieved by rotating the knurled brass wheel on the side of the telescope tube. A small star finder scope is mounted on top of the telescope tube for the user to accurately point the high powered large telescope at the object to be observed.. When dismantled the entire instrument fits in a mahogany storage case 126cm L x 31cm W x 20 cm H, with the tripod comprising a second package, length folded of 156 cm. Total weight including storage case 20kgs, + tripod weight 11kgs.
