Overview
Description
Castlemilk Moorit sheep, although classed as a primitive breed, were developed in the early 20th century by Sir Jock Buchanan-Jardine on his Castlemilk Estate in Dumfriesshire, Scotland. The breed was developed from the Manx Loaghtan, moorit Shetland and the wild Mouflon to create a sheep that would look beautiful on his parkland and to provide kemp-free wool to make clothes for his workers. Castlemilk Moorit sheep are on the Rare Breed Survival Trust watch list. There are only 2 -3 flocks in Ireland. They are a hardy breed that don’t seem to suffer from fly strike and rarely have foot problems. Their mothering instinct is second to none, lamb incredibly easily, rarely needing assistance, even with twins. We have ewes and ewe lambs for sale. And can also provide unrelated rams.
