Robovoski Dwarf Hamster

Or as we call them, moustache hamsters !! Roborovski hamsters, often referred to as "Robo hamsters," are the smallest and one of the most energetic species of dwarf hamsters. They typically measure about 1.5 to 2 inches in length and weigh around 20-25 grams. Originating from the deserts of Central Asia, they have adapted to a fast-paced and active lifestyle. Roborovski hamsters have a distinctive appearance with a sandy-colored fur coat, white underbelly, and prominent white "eyebrows," giving them an endearing look. Roborovski hamsters are known for their incredible speed and agility, making them a joy to watch but challenging to handle. Unlike some other hamster species, they are not particularly fond of being held and may be more suited for observation rather than frequent handling. They are social animals that can live in same-sex pairs or small groups if introduced from a young age, although careful monitoring is necessary to prevent conflicts. Their nocturnal and crepuscular nature means they are most active during the night and twilight hours, often running enthusiastically on exercise wheels or exploring their habitat. Due to their small size and active nature, Roborovski hamsters require a spacious and secure enclosure with plenty of room for exploration. A well-ventilated tank or a wire cage with a solid floor is recommended to prevent escape and protect their tiny feet. Enrichment is crucial to their well-being; providing an exercise wheel, tunnels, hideouts, and climbing structures will keep them physically and mentally stimulated. A layer of deep bedding is essential for their natural burrowing behavior. Additionally, offering a sand bath can help them keep their fur clean and provide an enjoyable activity. Roborovski hamsters need a balanced diet to thrive. Their primary diet should consist of high-quality hamster food, fresh vegetables, occasional fruits, and protein sources such as mealworms or boiled egg as a supplement.
