1960 Alfa Romeo 2000 Spider Touring Superleggera

After its unveiling at the 1957 Turin Motorshow as a replacement for the 1900 Super, the 2000 (Tipo 102) was Alfa Romeo’s flagship long distance touring GT produced between 1958 and 1962. It was available as a standard 4-door saloon, but also as a Bertone-styled coupe, and as an elegant 2-seater spider, designed and built by Touring of Milan. The spider coachwork, built by Touring of Milan, was characterized by lavish details like twin hood scoops, a split front bumper, and four chrome-lined non-functional vents behind each front wheel. With 3,443 examples built through 1962, the 2000 Spider was one of the rarer postwar models to emerge from Milan, bolstering its status as a collectable today. The standard engine was a 4 -cylinder 1975cc development of the unit used in the outgoing 1900. Featuring a robust iron block with twin chain-driven camshafts, hemispherical combustion chambers, aluminium head and twin carburetors, the enlarged engine produced 105 PS (77 kW; 104 hp) at 5300 rpm. The Spider shared the same engine, but with power increased to 115 PS (85 kW; 113 hp) at 5700 rpm, allowing it a top speed of 100mph plus. The 2000 was replaced in 1962 by the 6-cylinder Alfa Romeo 2600. According to a wealth of original paperwork, including the importer’s invoice and a 1961 purchase order and retail contract, as well as a certificate of origin issued by Alfa Romeo in January 2020, chassis number AR 1024 03097 and engine number AR 00204 03203 is a matching numbers car and was built in Dec 1960 with coachwork finished in Grigio biacca (white) paint. Delivered a month later to Frankfurt Germany. This car was purchased by the current owner at Bonhams Goodwood in September 2022 for £88000,00 with folders of history and has been in storage since with very light use just to keep it commissioned, the current owner is very motivated to sell so it is advertised at a very competitive price to reflect a quick sale.
