The 944 Cabriolets were all built in association with ASC (American Sunroof Company) of Germany who had the partially built bodies transported to them by Porsche from the factory for ASC to remove the Coupe roof, enhance the structural rigidity of the cars and weld in the necessary panels to become a Cabriolet and then send them back to Porsche for paint and trim before coming back again to be finished with the Mohair soft-top. Quite the build, as a result just 5,656 were made in total over 3 years making them rather rare and desirable in todays market.
