Hats off to car City I bought a lovely little car from them just after Easter keith was so kind and helpful and I rate them very highly if your thinking of changing your car this is the place to visit.

I bought a car from Ken Heaphy when he owned Newcastle West Autos Ltd for €20,900 in full. It had a mechanical failure 3 months later. Upon breaking down, it was towed by the warranty company, and went to a warranty mechanic.

The warranty that was given only covered €2.5k worth of repairs, and the warranty mechanic it went to said it needed to go to a manufacturer's garage. The repair was estimated at approximately €19.25k. When contacted for resolution, Ken referred to the warranty and contract. He didn't offer a temporary vehicle, replacement, repair or refund.

When goods are found to be faulty within 6 months of purchase it is assumed by law the fault was present at the time of purchase, and the responsibility falls to the seller.

This was supported by an independent assessor, who reviewed the vehicle and found that the damage was present at the time of sale, therefore the vehicle shouldn't have been sold to me in the first place. I had no choice as Ken did not offer support so I took legal action against Newcastle West Autos Ltd.

However, due to a clause in the contract saying both parties had to agree to go to arbitration, and as Ken never agreed this couldn't happen. It was a long, long road with a lot of time wasting, and no action to remedy the situation from Ken.

Until, 14 months after the car broke down, Ken offered to put €1.5k towards fixing the car, and €2.5k from the warranty company, however this was rejected due to it being impractical and unsustainable.

We continued to try to proceed to court but the letters bounced back in the post at Newcastle West Autos Ltd establishment and I found out he had moved here, whilst continuing to sell cars on DoneDeal from his previous business.

I'm down ~€30k, I'm here 23 months later without a resolution.

I held back from reviews as I want to resolve this. I have documented evidence of everything stated in this review. I'm merely sharing my experience and looking for resolution as it is completely unfair that I am at a significant loss after putting my trust in purchasing a vehicle from Ken.

This situation has taken almost two years from my life and my life savings. I have no idea how any business could do this. I should've never had to go through what I've been through in the last two years because of this nor should I be at such a significant loss.

This review is an overview of the situation. I have no comment towards Car City.
